| grassroots motorsports did a thing about golfs... they did faster times without the rear bar than with a large aftermarket one | |

| i think it was just a standard golf. it's in the new issue, so you can check it out.
they were doing some myth busting - basically they were just trying to the idea that every setup is different and you have to do it to your specific setup/needs and overarching statements like "putting on a big rear sway bar will help a lot". they did laps with and without a bar and the laps without the bar were actually faster because they were flatter and not tripoding in some of the corners.
that said, i need to read a shitload more about suspension design.

| Well close enough D, they did get faster with a rear bar but only by .18 seconds iirc. It was a mk3 2.slow.
The problem I have with that though is, they are on a flat and very smooth driving surface. I am curious how much seat time they have in the GTI. Slow in fast out is deff. not the best policy in that car.

| ^ Swaybars are the final balance measure of any car. Factory cars, especially FWD Japanese cars, have been coming with front heavy swaybars for a while. Understeer is safer for terrible drivers, so the idea is that if you're not a terrible driver you can put rear heavy sways on and be happy. That said, I'll only accept that an adjustable rear bar is better. | |
