Hehe. I'll have one up soon. I've been crazy freaking busy since I got it. This weekend, my friend and I took out the motor from his '82 Volvo 244 Turbo, replaced every gasket or seal that we could find, and put it back together, as well as still mixing in some FSAE and Baja work.

Mounted up the winter shoes (pic in my thread). Picked these up a couple weeks ago. Who wants to help install these this spring? Smile

The last time I went to help someone put suspension under their E46, I did all the work and only got a sandwich for my trouble.

Ha! Well I don't play like that. List your demands. Laughing

I'd prefer to be assisted. I'm familiar with doing macpherson's so it shouldn't be much new, except the little tricks.

We should do an install day. Get erryone together and knock a bunch of shit out!

I'd be glad to help out. That stuff is all pretty easy if you have tools.

Oh and I'll have new top hats, reinforcement plates, rear upper mounts etc. No spring compressors will be involved. Razz

I volunteer my garage for install day. I have a fairly basic set of tools, but it's sufficed through 2 prior suspension swaps.

Replaced the master cylinder. Then rerouted some vacuum/boost lines. Disconnected the "factory" electronic boost controller, and hooked up a manual boost controller. Even when set to the lowest boost setting, it's still over boosting Sad

So the waste gate isn't opening, or it's too small? I still have no idea what engine you have.

I'll make a project thread in a bit. But basically, it's a 1984 Ranger, with a 2.3T swap out of a 1986 Mercury Cougar XR7 turbo. I'm not sure about the wastegate. All I know, is there was a weird combination of vacuum lines before. It's like, the the wastegate ran to the EBC module (I think), which also had a line running to the intake before the compressor. I capped the line on the intake, then ran a line from the nipple on the compressor to the MBC, then to the wastegate. Maybe I turned the MBC the wrong way (I followed the arrows lol), but if I can guess what the internals of the MBC look like, it's the correct way. So, there is an 8" hose running directly from the compressor to the wastegate, with no restriction (if the MBC is in fact correct). Before all of this, the boost would hold right at 8 psi, at 3000 rpm. Now, I did some second gear pulls, and it held right at 11 psi (which is still safe for stock motor/fueling). I then did a first gear pull, and the boost crept above 11. Next, I tried a 3rd gear pull, and the boost just kept increasing. I think I saw it hit 14 just after I let off.

Those are fine boost numbers to run on that engine but it's unnerving for there to be so much variation.

Yeah. From what I've heard around 14 is safe for a stock non-intercooled motor with stock ECU running 93 octane. What worries me is how I am boosting more than stock with a setup that should be the lowest boost the turbo will see. As far as I know, how I have it set up should just have direct boost reference to the wastegate, meaning that it shouldn't be possible to boost lower than what it is at now.

Have you checked the accuracy of your boost gauge against a known quantity? There's only a few things it could be, make sure the gauge is working right first though Razz

Just remembered seeing that my MBC is directional, and I forgot to check to see if the correct side is going to the wastegate Razz I'll check that tomorrow!
